Its not a matter of time, its a matter of practice. Know its not what you want to hear, but its the truth.

I've been playing for about 2 years, but in the last 8 months or so, I have changed jobs, gotten a dog and had very little time or energy to practice. I consider myself a beginner, I can play many songs and sing along to them, but I know I have so much to learn. Devildog is right, the only way to get better is to practice as much as possible. Like he said, many great guitarists have some natural talent, but I''m sure they will all say that practicing is the only way to get better.

Ive been playing about seven months. I would watch my brother play and get right frustrated thinking i'll never achieve that. I need to constantly remind my self that he's been playing 20+ years. When I see how far I've progressed over 7 months i sure wished i started playing 20 yrs ago.

That's kinda hard to determine. Everyone's definition will be different. For some it's when they can switch from open to barre chords without thinking, and others, when they can finally play a few of their fav tunes. I've been playing for almost 2 years, and I still consider myself a beginner.
