Fret Size

Do fret sizes matter when buying a guitar? At least to a beginner? If so, what difference does it make?

It depends on brand, etc. as far as fret size but no, electrics and acoustics don't normally differ much. I hate any guitar with too high frets. I just want it high enough to make the string sing without buzz. Where you differ more in acoustic vs electrics is normally bridge height and string size........but mainly string size. Neck width can be different, but my old Epi acoustic has a nice electric neck feel.

I took this that you were asking for actual fret size......not fingerboard size. Hope this helps.

Fingeboard size can be different depending on neck width and length and amount of string spacing. A classical acoustic will differ a good deal from an electric and common acoustics. That's a whole different ball of wax.

They vary from model to model. My electric has jumbo frets, so the spacing between the two is quite a bit more than my acoustic or classical.

are also different shaped frets...u have round which are found on older guitars, alot of budget guitars and a lot of specific brands use them....then u have flat topped which are tipically jump frets that are used on alot of electrics and some higher end acoustics...most people won't notice a difference...personally I prefer the jumbo with flat tops becaus they don't wear down as quick do to there natural contact position with the strings, and there just easier to play with for me
